FSC1 – Fire Certificate Taught Module
This focused qualification helps you learn and develop fire safety skills which can be applied in workplaces anywhere in the world.
On completion of the NEBOSH Certificate in Fire Safety you will have the knowledge and skills to:
– Understand fire and explosion protection and prevention principles
– Carry out an effective fire risk assessment in a low to medium risk workplace.
Exams (FSC1 and FSC2)
FSC1 – the written test
Nebosh use Open Book Examinations (OBE’s) to assess the FSC1 module of the Fire Safety Certificate, giving you 24 hours to complete the exam, with unlimited access to materials and resources, including Internet research and searches.
The OBE is based on a NEBOSH workplace scenario where fire safety practices are normally quite poor.
You play the role of a Fire Safety person who must identify issues and motivate management to deploy the necessary resources to address the issues and to create a safe environment.
The OBE can be difficult to pass, unless you receive suitable guidance. We have developed a highly focused Powerpoint presentation called WASPER that teaches you, step by step, how to approach this exam and the best methods of answering the questions. This is one of the reasons (over and above Tutor excellence) that we have such a high pass rate for this and other NEBOSH certificate courses.
The FSC2 practical examination is a fire risk assessment of your own workplac, based on a NEBOSH supplied Fire Risk Assessment Template, which must be completed and submitted by yourself 10 working days before or after the OBE date.
Your Tutor is also required to conduct a “Closing Interview” and send the results to Nebosh. This is a simple 15 minute interview, conducted remotely, where your Tutor asks a few simple questions to ensure that you have written the OBE answers yourself. This is in lieu of invigilation.
